Rare Retreats

From the wild coasts of Costa Rica to Puerto Rico’s idyllic sands, The Ritz-Carlton Reserve celebrates beauty, nature, and tranquility.

With just a handful of exceptional addresses around the globe, The Ritz-Carlton Reserve collection is rethinking luxury for the most discerning travelers. Each Reserve is positioned to transcend the traditional resort stay with intuitive service, a celebration of local traditions, and innovative design. Here, we share two Reserve standouts that invite guests to unwind in serious style.

PUERTO RICO

Dorado Beach, a Ritz‑Carlton Reserve

The sweeping 50-acre beachfront estate lies on the former Laurance S. Rockefeller property, where no building rises above the palms and sea-inspired relaxation is the order of the day.

The Vibe: Barefoot refinement in a colonial-meets-Caribbean setting. Oceanfront villas and suites are surrounded by lush tropical gardens, private coves, and the spectacular coastline.

Food & Drink: Dining venues include COA, a grill focused on native wood-fired cuisine; Flor de Sal, an alfresco fine-dining spot inspired by Italy and the Mediterranean; and Positivo Sand Bar for Asian-meets-Latin flavors.

Don’t Miss: A guided stroll along the property’s historic nature trail—once part of Rockefeller’s original grounds. Plus, take time to wander the shoreline at dusk, which promises to be an indelible sundowner.

COSTA RICA

Nekajui, a Ritz‑Carlton Reserve

Perched on the dramatic cliffs of Peninsula Papagayo, this new ultra-luxurious escape debuts as the first Reserve-branded property in Central America (“Nekajui” means “garden” in the Chorotega language). With 107 ocean-facing rooms, suites, and treetop tents, the design celebrates Costa Rica’s lush, emerald landscapes.

The Vibe: Understated yet sophisticated, the resort is built into the hillside and framed by verdant dry forest and Pacific vistas. Large glass doors open onto balconies or plunge-pool terraces. A suspended footbridge traverses the rainforest canopy, while an open-air tram ferries guests to a private beach club.

Food & Drink: A Peruvian-inspired signature restaurant is helmed by top chefs, while the beach club leans into Iberian-influenced fare, and resort cafés serve local coffee and cacao. Cocktails integrate regional botanicals, bringing the destination to life as you watch the sun dip into the sea.

Don’t Miss: A nature walk led by the in-house “Explorers” team through the surrounding dry forest, spotting capuchin monkeys and vibrant birdlife. At sunset, unwind at the tree-house bar perched above the coast, or take the tram down to the beach club for a toes-in-sand toast with family and friends.
