Nashville, Reimagined

Nashville, Reimagined

With coveted dining, local art, live sports, and boutique shopping, there’s more than one way to play Music City.

Is it just us, or is everyone talking about Nashville? While music is at its core, the city is flexing its creativity in new and exciting ways, from culinary innovation to world-class art, sports, and shopping. There are countless ways to experience the city, and each neighborhood reveals a different layer of its character (the beloved downtown district is just the beginning!). From eclectic East Nashville to historic Germantown, visitors can uncover both time-honored traditions and the cutting edge of contemporary culture. Read on for everything on our radar right now.

THE BEAT GOES ON

Yes, Nashville is known as Music City, but the title extends far beyond its country roots. More than 250 live music venues offer everything from jazz and blues to indie rock and classical performances, any and every day of the week (tip: the new Pinnacle venue is stunning). The city is also where you’ll find more music museums than anywhere else in the world. For starters, there’s the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum (also home to the Taylor Swift Education Center), the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum (displaying the guitars of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, and more), and the National Museum of African American Music (where immersive interactive technology takes you on a deep dive through blues, jazz, and music today). Some of the best music stores can be found here as well, including Carter Vintage Guitars and Jack White’s Third Man Records.

IN GOOD TASTE

These days, Nashville’s food scene is as diverse as its music scene. Fine dining restaurants and chef-driven tasting menus intermingle with iconic Southern staples like hot chicken, meat-and-three, and buttery biscuits. Neighborhood gems showcase farm-to-table innovation, while the city’s breweries, distilleries, and cideries reveal a new generation of craft beverage talent. A few local favorite spots include Peg Leg Porker, Locust by renowned chef Trevor Moran for reimagined seafood dishes, and Maiz De La Vida for authentic Mexican food. Meanwhile, locals are counting down the days until the Michelin-acclaimed omakase concept, Sushi by Scratch, opens later this year.

THE CITY IS YOUR CANVAS

Fun fact: Before Nashville was crowned Music City, its nickname was Athens of the South, due to its long-standing commitment to higher education and learning. In celebration of Nashville’s centennial in 1897, a full-scale replica of the Greek Parthenon was built. Located in Centennial Park, the famous structure features an art gallery and models of famed Greek statues. The Frist Art Museum is another Nashville landmark. Housed in an Art Deco building that was originally a post office, it now displays dozens of world-renowned, rotating exhibitions. The city is also punctuated by more than 75 local galleries, as well as street murals, art crawls, and public art installations that invite visitors to experience the city itself as a canvas.

GAME ON

Sports fans, take your pick. Nashville has four professional teams: the Nashville Predators (NHL hockey), the Tennessee Titans (NFL football), the Nashville Sounds (minor league baseball), and Nashville SC (major league soccer). Beyond professional play, you can always catch a local college game at Vanderbilt or Belmont University, while recreational opportunities also abound. Think: kayaking along the Cumberland River, golfing at Gaylord Springs, and biking or e-biking along scenic paths like Stones River Greenway and Music City Bikeway.

THE STYLE EDIT

Global fashion and local craftsmanship alike are thriving in Nashville. The Green Hills area is lined with upscale boutiques, while the Gulch and 12 South districts are great for artsy, modern shops. East Nashville is known for its vibrant, eclectic scene (and so many great vintage boutiques), and downtown, of course, can’t be missed for those only-in-Nashville souvenirs, such as a retro concert poster from Hatch Show Print or authentic Nashville gear from The Music City Shop.
