Almost two centuries have passed since the British naturalist Charles Darwin visited the Galápagos Islands and observed wildlife behaviors that informed his theory of evolution — a notion that changed both modern science and humanity. Nearly 200 years later, today visitors can still witness real-time evolution within this UNESCO World Heritage archipelago aboard Silversea’s first destination-specific ship — Silver Origin.

Even better, all equipment is included, so there’s no need to cram gear into your suitcase or pack a wetsuit.

The ship features a dynamic positioning system crafted specifically to protect the delicate seabed and limit impact on wildlife. Guests are gifted a metallic reusable water bottle upon arrival to reduce the need for single-use plastic bottles. These can be filled in the reverse osmosis fresh-water purification systems located in each suite and throughout the ship. Exterior lighting is also dimmed to avoid disturbing animals after dark. There’s also the Silversea Fund for the Galápagos, a fund created by Silversea and dedicated to safeguarding the archipelago for future generations to enjoy.
