ABROAD & BEYOND
A Safari That
Gives Back
Micato Safaris and its philanthropic arm, Micato-AmericaShare, elevate communities in Africa.
While wildlife spotting is the highlight of any safari, Micato Safaris believes that travelers can be just as moved by the communities that surround Africa’s biodiverse parks. That’s why it have developed several programs dedicated to ensuring access to quality education, healthcare, and career opportunities.
Its philanthropic arm, Micato-AmericaShare, directs Micato Safaris’ charitable work, which focuses on elevating vulnerable and underserved communities, especially those in the Mukuru slum of Nairobi, Kenya.
With the generous help of Micato Safaris guests, the company in 2007 opened the Micato-AmericaShare Harambee Community Centre, which serves as a community living room of sorts, housing a library and computer center and offering educational and healthcare resources that improve the quality of life in rural Eastern Africa. While on safari, Micato guests often visit the Harambee Centre and see first-hand the direct impact these educational and outreach programs have on the lives of local children and their families.
The success of the Harambee Community Centre was the catalyst for expansion, leading Micato-AmericaShare to establish the Red Hill Library and Community Centre near Cape Town, South Africa. As with the Harambee Community Centre, Micato Safaris guests visit the library and often read to local children.
Micato Safaris recognizes that education is the most sustainable way to protect Africa’s wildlife and other natural resources. So even without a visit to these community centers, all Micato guests contribute to a child’s education: For each guest, Micato-AmericaShare sends a child to school, covering all fees. This simple act has helped thousands of families living in extreme poverty who otherwise couldn’t afford the cost of education.
“Micato Safaris recognizes that education is the most sustainable way to protect Africa’s wildlife and other natural resources.”
Micato-AmericaShare also works closely with Huru International, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring girls do not miss school for lack of access to menstrual education and products. Huru International manufactures reusable sanitary pads, and its partnership with Micato-AmericaShare has helped distribute them to more than 300,000 girls in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, saving female students over 5.5 million days of absences. Indeed, education is the greatest resource of all.

Some of my favorite memories come from traveling. Since I was young, we have always traveled to the Caribbean, to Disney, and to some amazing places which has only made me love travel more! I love the soft sandy beaches, the clear blue seas and the warm sun above while reading a book or watching my children play! I also love having adventures such as zip lining through the Costa Rica Rainforest or snorkeling of the coast of Aruba with the the fish surrounding you!
I love travel so much, that my husband and I had a destination wedding with the Disney Cruise Line. We were married on the Disney Dream in January of 2015 and I loved every second of that trip! Disney is my specialty! I love the Disney parks and the cruise line and find myself always reading up on the latest events to reviews about all the different and amazing restaurants Disney has to offer. If you are looking for an amazing Disney vacation, not just your typical ride the rides kind of trip, have a consult with m ...
